#SNES Blind Racism

Racism is Blind

YUP. BLACK PEOPLE CAN BE RASCIST. We are NOT exempt from hate speech or spreading hate and I'm tired of the idea that black people are exempt from this because we were slaves.

I AM GUILTY OF THIS

During my "Hotep", pan-African, woke phase, I used to say and believe all kinds of things about white people. You name it, I said it. Then I thought " How is this helping?" Why can we say some of the same things or have negative thoughts or actions and not be considered racist? To me its a form of wanting to be superior because we were seen as inferior. It's become socially acceptable to shit on white people and it's not going to work forever. Is/was slavery fucked up? Yes but we weren't the only slaves ever. Is racism wrong? Yes, although we are not exempt from perpetuating it. I was speaking with a coworker about disciplining differences in the black and white communities. A point that I wasn't able to get to was this: Firstly, how were African children reared before the time of American slavery, or even today? I believe that some of the excessive verbal and possible physical discipline comes from how we were treated during the times of slavery. Many of us have countless stories about getting beat or chased or threatened with whatever could be reached. A reason I made this a point was because black people will look at how other groups of people treat their kids or assume that we were reprimanded better than others due to how their children behave in public. With that being said, if we as black people were indeed reared better, why do we act and support what we do if we knew better? To me it just seems as though we were made to fear our parents ( or for context, overseers) not so that we become better people and understand right from wrong, but more to command obedience.

Second, if white people commit some of thee most heinous acts from slavery to school shootings, why is it not as pervasive in their music and culture like the black community? Many aspects of our plight and our issues have become the highlights of who we are, who we surround ourselves with, the media we make and take in, our role models, etc. I understand that there is room for praise for those who came from nothing and extremely hard times to become successful, yet black people in mass CHOOSE to uplift those of us who take more dangerous and risky routes to get where they want to be. I for sure have done the research and gone through the analytics about how the war on drugs damaged and destroyed many of our people. My own father was a victim to his own illness and addictions that started in the late 60's into the early 70's. The ramifications of his actions has trickled down upon me and my family financially, emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritual. As being the son of a certified drug user and addict, I can't imagine being on the other side as a drug dealer, selling products for my personal gain whole destroying the lives of men, women and children for who knows how long. How are we to get better as people or a community if we still perpetuate the destruction of our own people? Media we create, consume, and support has too much destruction woven into it that usually comes down on US. No other group makes music like we do in both a positive and negative light. Our music shows others that we are totally fine with dealing dealing and destruction towards each other. I said all that to say this: Nobody but us has a track record of causing the same amount if not more damage to our people than those who CHOOSE certain paths and those who stand in support of our downfall.

Third. In recent years there have been more and more schools of thought that claim that not only are white people a different species from black people but that WE are in fact superior to them on numerous scales and playing fields. I too am guilty of this. We say that God is a black man or a black woman. Our physical attributes are better. In a nutshell, we are now and have always been better than our more pale counterparts. If you've been in these realms and took a step back, how are these thoughts and expressions any better than how racist white people used to talk about us? My people want to be celebrated SO BAD for things outside of media and entertainment; seen as something greater and we came from greater than where we are. Cool. I just cannot honestly say how we are going about it is completely wrong. For one, nobody else can believe these things about us if we don't even love who we are ( individually to a community of people as a whole). How we treat each other along with other things shows that if we are or come from this elite group of people, we have fallen from grace and the blame cannot fall upon the shoulders of others to fix. Most of us don't fully know where we come from on the continent, but we claim Africa as "home" because we are of darker skin tones. All of us were not victims of American slavery as easy as it is to be a victim of its horrors due to how we look. To note, what about the millions of humans who were sold by Africans to other countries in the name of money and slavery, and the people who don't look like us that were enslaved BY people who DO look like us? Claiming that Africans never had slaves or conquered other people would assume that those with African DNA are docile and weak. And we all know that we are not that. So what's the truth about our history? We all weren't kings and queens. Societies cannot properly function like that. It sounds like a passive aggressive form of superiority. It sounds like we haven't gotten through or covered our pains from slavery and now that we are more in the limelight, front stage and center, we are lashing back at anyone who hurts us by wanting to act or treat them, how we were treated. Or in a sense, become the perpetrator of pain because we are in so much pain.
