Atlanta Braves World Series 2021 Parade #chopon

Fall 2021

Hello All! Unless you've lived under a rock, you have heard and seen enough news about the Atlanta Braves winning the 2021 World Series. As an Atlanta Native, first and foremost, WHOOOOOOOOO! YEA!!! THE FUCKIN...BOYS!!! I'm still reeling from the fact that we finally broke thru and won the World Series! The Super Bowl a few years ago would have been nice and not totally embarrassing, yet the Braves were able to give the city it's first ring since the Atlanta United formed. There's a big THREE in sports for Atlanta: Football ( NFL,SEC, and Georgia Tech) , Basketball, and Baseball. Soccer has now entered the chat but these three have always been staples in Atlanta sports culture as well as the southeast. I've always understood the basics of baseball and while over the summer, it was on tv. It seemed boring due to not being as constantly eventful as football or basketball until I understood how important pitching defense was. Low scores means usually really good pitching, or so I've seen from Max Fried and the Braves Bullpen.

I was born in time for the first World Series win for the braves and I've been told that we as a family went to the parade. It was SO crowed from what I hear. A literal sea of people. This year was different for obvious reasons, yet the streets were still filled from the sidewalk to parking decks all along Peachtree Street. Old lifers, new fans or people just getting out of the house ( even though Atlanta never really abided by most Covid-19 regulations) , it was a time for all Atlanteans to come together and join in the celebration for their champions of baseball. The crowd itself was electric on a sunny afternoon despite the temperature. Even before the parade started, there were vendors (official and unofficial) selling everything from shirts and sitting pillows. I was lucky enough to run into someone who was selling copies of the AJC (Atlanta Journal Constitution) celebrating the beloved baseball team for the absolute lovely price of five dollars. Other vendors were selling things like shirts and signs, hats and anything with a Braves "A" on it. It really was a glorious moment to photograph and to be apart of.

When I was editing these photos, this picture stood out about how a solid amount of Braves fan feel about the the World Series win (face of the woman on the left) and the parade for it (the man on the right with the trophy). The parade was all of 10 minutes long from the start point at Five points Station to Midtown. I was very disappointed in how short the celebration was in the heart of the city. The traffic in the city over the last few weeks has been terrible to drive in and trying to get to The Battery or SunTrust Truist Park in the Marietta area. Also there is no bus or train that runs out to the new baseball field so most of the parade goers had to see what they could down by the Georgia State campus nestled in downtown Atlanta. Viewers were out in the 50 to 60 degree weather EARLY, some as early as 8 A.M., waiting for the 15 minute parade to which they couldn't see the players very well or feel as though their time was wasted. So many of the onlookers that went to said parade left with an ugly taste in their mouths and they took those feelings to the internet.

All in all the City of Atlanta, myself included obviously, is still ecstatic that after all this time waiting for one of the Big Three to win a ne class of rings, has finally happened for us. This year we lost the beyond great late Hank Aaron #44 and a staple in Atlanta news, the always lovely and intelligent Jovita Moore. Ms. Moore had been battling her diagnosis of brain cancer for who knows how long but we learned more about it this past April. I'm glad that she was able to see that we (the Braves) had made it to the World Series this year, but unfortunately she passed a few days prior to us actually winning a few days later. It's gone unsaid by some of the higher ups in the city, but we won in remembrance of her contributions to the city and more so the communities she showed face in. She was a force in the office and in the homes of those who truly needed help. One time I got to see her in person and she was TALL (maybe around 5'9"-5'11" plus a few inches from heels). Saying that the city needed a "pick-me-up" from the loss of a friendly face and a baseball legend is putting it lightly. The parade could and should have just been better for aa certain part of the city.

GO BRAVES!!!!!!!
