Marvelous Black Boy Art Show- September 5th, 2021

Good Evening Everyone!!

This is a fantastic evening for numerous reasons. First, I'm alive. You're alive and we get to share another moment together. Secondly, I was recently at the aforementioned Marvelous Black Boy Art Show this Labor day weekend at The Wxllxm on the west side of Atlanta, Ga. The energy was phenomenal and I felt way better going into this showcase. Below will be PHOTOS of the art, but as usual, not the actual files themselves. Regardless, I've still been diving into my own abstract art as some side pieces to show people, yet this show was about healing. The \\Chrysalis// set came to me months ago after getting into myself for the first time and really understanding WHO I am and WHY I am the WAY I am. I was doing a lot of reading as well as journaling, calisthenics, the whole nine. I cannot lie; I had fall offs. Yet I had decent jobs that kept me active not only physically, but artistically too. I had a job in my field of photography...and yet...I wasn't getting paid for my work. How I went about solving that definitely was not wise. I know I can't take it back. All one can do is move forward. The heling process continues...

During my time of deeper solitude I was reading the main trilogy by Eckhart Tolle, beginning with "The Power of Now" and leading into "A New Earth" . These two books alone changed my way of thinking about life, understanding God, and how important being in the present moment is. It also showed me that believing in a Higher Power is a good thing for most people. It doesn't have to be attached to a religion, cult, sector or what have you. Just something to be thankful to and see yourself in. But that's just me rambling on. Most importantly, these texts showed me how to check my ego. In comes \\Chrysalis//.

\\Chrysalis// is about many things. I leave it up to personal interpretation for most people. Me personally, it means that we are VERY complex and intricate creatures.

*These Pieces are For sale. *

*The frames themselves aren't of the highest quality only because I wanted the pictures to be the same size. *

  1. Chrysalis (18x24 $300)

The human experience is split between two major halves; The Spirit ( blue dragon) and The Ego (red dragon). I chose to draw this, instead of photographing it, because the work I needed to do had to come from my roots and I've always been a doodler of sorts. Within the Four Triangles of the Elements (Fire, Air, Earth, and Water) are leaves of the different seasons in nature and in our lives. The background consists of rocket science and binary code before fading into the universe. At the Top there is a small figure, finding their enlightenment. The obvious center figure represents the ALL LIFE; the very essence and life of every living thing in existence. It's me. It's you. It's everything. I wanted this set to resemble Tarot cards and old spiritual art.

2. Time Grid (18x24 $300)

So while jotting ideas down I once thought " Could the factors of our lives be shown in how we progress?" and my answer to me from me is YES. The b/g also has aspects of rocket science and ancient geometry. As you can see, the bottom left corner has a legend for how to tell what the different colors mean to ME. I wanted to leave the colors out of the middle so that it could be filled out by whoever buys this in the future. It speaks to our health along the timelines of our human experience. The numerous types of health we have to be on top of just to be NORMAL people, let alone "successful".

When it comes to what I incorporate into my art, I've always been drawn to alchemy and just weird symbols and figures. Doing research on these symbols and times shows that people of simple times were allowed to believe in way more things before they were told there were wrong or crazy. Sticking to the art, the symbols and graphs depict that our lives are filled with systems that we can't fully understand in our lifetimes. There is just too much information to take in. Yet if we didn't have them, even down to the most simple of studies, our entire society would fall apart. If any of the wonders of the human body fail, we feel those consequences almost instantaneously. Everything matters. Everything has its place and time.

"Dragon Tales" (24x36 $250)

I recently got a Ipad and it has BOOSTED my art quality, and definitely the amount of work I'm making and WHAT I've been making. I really enjoy using this particular brush called Groovy in the app Procreate because of its spacing and the stroke itself. Before I finished this piece, I noticed that to the right, how the black stroke comes over the white to form what looks like an eye. From there the eyebrow turns into a horn, the bottom strokes shape a nose and mouth, leading into a jaw line. The pinks and greens felt like different types of leaves and lotus flower petals. The gradient represents going from a place of purity into a world of intensity. Its abstract.

" Twisted Crowns" (20x30 $350)

This is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE abstract painting that I've done so far. There's something that speaks to me personally about it. I think this was the first piece that I did where I mixed brushes. The title came from the mix of colors under a gold foundation above the head. To me it's odd that my people, Black people, claim that we are all kings and queens. Nothing wrong with the positive affirmation of it or understanding that we are better than what has been portrayed about us through history. Yet we don't act like real royalty. Who would truly trust a young king? Can you follow the word and direction of an inexperienced leader? Their most personal counterpart; how would you expect them to act, in accordance with their significant figure? Too many questions. There's a wreath crown also on the closer side of the face, those also have been a recurring object in my art work. Cool aesthetic.

SOLD PIECES

"Tree of Life" (18x24 SOLD)

Obviously apart of the \\Chrysalis// set, the Tree of Life represents many thing. In the top left corner is the breakdown of time starting from binary code the leading into milliseconds, seconds, minutes, hours, etc. There's a sundial and the terms for lengths of time. The leaves are the same ones found in the other pieces of the set and the Red and Blue stand for the Ego and the Spirit. Humans are like trees: we go through seasons in our lives and these seasons repeat. Growth and prosperity in our spring and summers, recollection in our fall, and shedding the old ways of our lives in the winter. We cannot avoid these times and the changes that are needed to make us better people.

"Dragon's Dance" (24x36 SOLD)

This piece wasn't one of my favorites, yet it seemed to draw MUCH attention at the show and has now been bought. I wanted the background to resemble the magnificent redwood trees in California. I've always wanted to visit that sector of California just to take photos of those trees and just be in nature of the beings that are so gargantuan. Something about being in the scale of something so big to really ground us in how little we really are on this planet, but how much our actions impact the world around us and for our children. The two dragons represent our dance with nature. How humans and technology have to be positively intertwined with nature and animals . At the same time, I don't know. It's abstract.

Thank you everyone for supporting the art and for supporting me! It really does mean the world for everyone to come out, take cards, talk and engage in my work, reading and following along with my journey, the whole nine. Feel free to contact me at info@svbr2th.com. I'm not using social media while I'm in "show mode" so stay posted. Love you all
